Our love story

His: Walking to a cafe, I saw a woman I had to talk to. Crossing the street, her bright orange shoes caught my eye and gave me my "in". Conversation was effortless; we began a connection that led to an impromptu first date that lasted 14 hours.

Hers: I was wearing orange flats, although it was more than just "nice shoes" that got me! Over coffee, we discovered we were both interested in world travel and learning new languages. 7 months later, we were engaged and planning a move to Beijing.

Three important details about our ultimate wedding.

As a State Department family, we are posting to the US Embassy in China this year. Our friends and family will be coming from all over the world so we want a destination wedding with tastefully melted American, Chinese, and Spanish influences. Think: 1. A location accessible to our guests with a unique local flavor. 2. Cuisine inspired from our Asian travels, 3. Music so good, it pleases our international crowd and inspires them to get footloose in whatever color shoes they are wearing.

Our ultimate dream home.

We move every two to three years. That said, we require furniture that can survive a trans-Pacific move and is timeless enough to look great in whatever country we make our home. A classically trained chef (Stephanie) and a champion dish washer (Michael), we entertain more than any other couple we know. Our dream home has enough room for every guest, a great wine cellar, and all the necessary dining accessories a diplomat family would require to achieve world peace, one meal at a time.
